Uniting from across the state to preserve and promote classical music among the young generation of musicians in our communities.
The Luna String Quartet draws in a huge crowd Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st, many YMM small ensembles performed at the Minnesota State Fair's Labor Pavilion, where the Minnesota Orchestra Musicians were stationed. On Saturday, six groups performed, and on Sunday, three groups performed. As each ensemble performed, large crowds gathered to listen, developing the prime opportunity for the Young Musicians of Minnesota and Musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra to raise awareness about the current Minnesota Orchestra lockout situation. Many were appalled at the current situation, to know that 26 musicians have left the orchestra, they've been locked out for 11 months, and Osmo Vanska's impending resignation is set for September 9th. That is why it's more important than ever that the public stays connected to the Minnesota Orchestra lockout. The YMM did a wonderful job of connecting with the public at the Fair this weekend. A huge thank you goes out to the YMM members who spent their weekend volunteering at the AFL-CIO booth flyering, performing on stage, and coming out to support and listen to their fellow musicians perform. YMM would also like to thank the AFL-CIO Union and Minnesota Orchestra Musicians for giving us the wonderful opportunity to be at the Fair this weekend. We can't wait 'till next year!
